1. Privacy at a Glance
MenuDeskTime is designed to work locally on your Mac.
The application does not require a user account and does not operate a cloud service for storing work sessions or application preferences.
MenuDeskTime does not transmit your work sessions, active-time information, application preferences, or activity status to servers operated by the developer.
The current version does not contain advertising, behavioural tracking, third-party analytics SDKs, or custom telemetry services.
2. Information Processed by the Application
To provide its functionality, MenuDeskTime may process the following information locally on your Mac:
- the start and end time of a work session;
- the active duration of a work session;
- periods during which counting is paused;
- the number of pauses within a session;
- the calendar day associated with a session;
- whether the Mac is active or idle;
- system lock, unlock, sleep, and wake events;
- the time of the most recent local session update; and
- application settings and preferences.
This information is processed locally for the purpose of measuring and displaying active time, separating work sessions, restoring interrupted sessions, and providing the settings selected by the user.
The developer does not receive or have access to this locally processed information.
3. Activity and Idle-Time Detection
MenuDeskTime uses a macOS system function that reports how much time has passed since the most recent user-input event.
The application uses this value only to determine whether the Mac should currently be considered active or idle.
MenuDeskTime does not record, inspect, or transmit:
- keystrokes or keyboard content;
- mouse movements or individual clicks;
- screen contents or screenshots;
- applications being used;
- window titles;
- websites or browsing history;
- documents, file names, or file contents; or
- the content of any user-input event.
The current version does not require macOS Accessibility or Screen Recording permission for activity detection.
4. Work Sessions and Local Storage
MenuDeskTime stores completed work sessions in a local application database on your Mac.
An in-progress session may also be saved locally at intervals so that the application can recover the session after an unexpected interruption or restart.
Session information is not uploaded to the developer and is not synchronised through a cloud service operated by the developer.
Completed sessions currently displayed by the application can be deleted through the session's context menu. Other local application data can be removed by deleting the corresponding application data from the Mac.
The developer cannot remotely access, retrieve, correct, export, or delete locally stored session data on your behalf.
5. Application Settings
MenuDeskTime stores application preferences locally on your Mac. These may include:
- the idle threshold;
- the time after which a new session begins;
- whether break reminders are enabled;
- the selected break-reminder threshold;
- the menu bar time format;
- whether the status icon is shown; and
- whether Launch at Login is enabled through macOS.
These preferences are not used to create an online profile and are not transmitted to the developer.
6. Break Reminders and Notifications
If break reminders are enabled, MenuDeskTime may request permission to display local macOS notifications.
The application evaluates the current session duration locally and may generate a one-time notification after the configured threshold is reached.
The notification may contain the length of the current session. It is created on the Mac and does not require a developer-operated push-notification server.
Notification permission can be reviewed or withdrawn at any time in macOS System Settings. Break reminders can also be disabled in MenuDeskTime's settings.
7. Launch at Login
If the user enables Launch at Login, MenuDeskTime asks macOS to register the application as a login item using Apple's system service.
This setting is managed on the Mac. It does not create an online account and is not transmitted to the developer.
The user can disable Launch at Login in MenuDeskTime or through the relevant macOS system settings.
8. No User Accounts or Cloud Synchronisation
MenuDeskTime does not require the user to create an account.
The application does not maintain its own cloud-based user profiles, passwords, account database, or session-synchronisation service.
9. Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking
The current version of MenuDeskTime does not contain:
- third-party advertising;
- behavioural or personalised advertising;
- cross-app or cross-website tracking;
- marketing trackers;
- third-party analytics SDKs; or
- custom developer-operated telemetry.
The developer does not sell or rent personal data collected through the application.
10. Apple and the Mac App Store
MenuDeskTime is distributed through Apple's Mac App Store.
Apple may independently process information relating to your:
- Apple Account;
- purchase or download;
- payment and refund activity;
- device;
- App Store activity;
- crash reports; or
- diagnostic and usage information.
Such processing is carried out by Apple under Apple's own terms and privacy policies.
Depending on the user's Apple settings and the services made available by Apple, the developer may receive aggregated App Store statistics or limited diagnostic and crash information from Apple. The developer generally does not receive the user's full payment information from Apple.
11. Contact by Email
If you contact the developer by email, the information contained in your message, including your email address, will be processed in order to respond to your request, provide support, investigate a problem, or handle feedback.
Depending on the circumstances, processing may be based on:
- Article 6(1)(b) GDPR where processing is necessary to take steps at your request or to perform a contract;
- Article 6(1)(c) GDPR where processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation; or
- Article 6(1)(f) GDPR based on the legitimate interest in answering enquiries, providing support, preventing abuse, and maintaining the security and reliability of MenuDeskTime.
Please do not include unnecessary confidential, sensitive, or special-category personal data in support emails.
12. Data Retention
Because work sessions and preferences are processed locally and are not transmitted to the developer, the developer does not maintain a server-side archive of this information.
Locally stored application data remains on the Mac until it is deleted through the application, removed by the user, removed through macOS, or deleted together with the relevant application data.
Personal data contained in support communications may be retained for as long as necessary to handle the request, establish or defend legal claims, prevent abuse, and comply with applicable retention obligations. It will be deleted or anonymised when it is no longer required for those purposes, subject to statutory retention requirements.
13. Legal Bases for Local Processing
To the extent that locally performed processing within MenuDeskTime falls within the developer's responsibility under data-protection law, it is carried out to provide the functionality requested by the user.
Depending on the circumstances, the relevant legal basis may be Article 6(1)(b) GDPR or Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interests include providing the application's requested functionality, maintaining session continuity, and ensuring reliable operation.
Where macOS requests notification permission, permission can be withdrawn at any time through macOS System Settings without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
14. Data Recipients and International Transfers
MenuDeskTime does not transmit locally stored work sessions, active-time data, or preferences to the developer or to developer-selected third parties.
Apple independently provides the Mac App Store, macOS, payment, download, diagnostic, and related services. Any data processing or international transfer performed by Apple is governed by Apple's own privacy information and legal arrangements.
If you contact the developer by email, the message is processed through the email and hosting services used by the developer. Information on any processors and transfer safeguards applicable to the website or email service should be provided in the general privacy policy for maxantonschneider.com.
15. Your GDPR Rights
Where the developer processes personal data relating to you, you may have rights under the GDPR, including the right to:
- request access to your personal data;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- request deletion of personal data;
- request restriction of processing;
- object to certain processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive certain data in a portable format where applicable;
- withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent; and
- lodge a complaint with a competent data-protection supervisory authority.
These rights may be subject to legal conditions, exceptions, and retention obligations.
Because work sessions and preferences are processed locally and are not transmitted to the developer, the developer cannot access, retrieve, correct, export, or delete that local information on your behalf.

16. Security
MenuDeskTime is designed to minimise the amount of personal data transmitted outside your Mac.
The user remains responsible for protecting access to the Mac, maintaining appropriate system security, installing relevant operating-system updates, and deciding whether locally stored time information requires additional protection or backups.
No technical system can guarantee absolute security.
17. Children's Privacy
MenuDeskTime is a general productivity application and is not specifically directed at children.
The application does not knowingly collect personal information from children or other users through a developer-operated service.
18. Website Privacy
This Privacy Policy primarily covers the MenuDeskTime macOS application.
The MenuDeskTime website may technically process additional information, such as server log data, contact-form information, cookies, or hosting data. Such processing must be described in the general privacy policy applicable to maxantonschneider.com.
19. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if MenuDeskTime's functionality changes, new services are introduced, or applicable legal requirements change.
The current version will be made available through the application's website, Mac App Store listing, or another appropriate location. The date at the beginning of this Privacy Policy identifies the latest revision.
