Summary

Just Chess Tactics does not operate its own servers and does not collect personal data on our own systems. Your puzzle progress (rating, streak, solved-puzzle count, and preferences) is stored locally on your device.

On iOS, the App may optionally use Apple Game Center so that your high scores can appear on leaderboards. When you use Game Center, limited score data is transmitted to Apple, not to us. That processing is governed by Apple’s privacy policy. On Android, Game Center is not used.

This is a legally required, more detailed explanation of that summary.

1. Who Is Responsible

The controller responsible for this App within the meaning of applicable data protection law (including the EU General Data Protection Regulation, "GDPR") is:

2. What Data the App Processes Locally

The App stores the following information locally on your device, using your operating system's standard on-device storage (React Native AsyncStorage):

• your chess puzzle rating and rating history changes;
• your best rating;
• your current and best daily streak, and the date you last opened the App;
• the number of puzzles you have solved;
• Survival-mode best solved count and related run state;
• your app preferences (board color theme, language, color preference, and toggles for haptic feedback, sound effects, auto-advance, game modes, and which stats are displayed).

This local data:

• is not linked by us to your name, email address, or any account we operate — the App has no account system of our own;
• is not transmitted to us or to any server operated by us;
• is not used by us for advertising, profiling, or analytics.

3. Apple Game Center (iOS only)

On iOS, the App integrates Apple Game Center to provide optional high-score leaderboards for:

• Tactics — your best puzzle rating (Elo); and
• Survival — your best number of puzzles solved in a Survival run.

What may be shared with Apple

If you are signed in to Game Center (or complete Game Center authentication when prompted), the App may submit to Apple:

• your best Tactics rating; and
• your best Survival solved count.

Apple may associate those scores with your Game Center identity (for example, Game Center player ID and display name / alias) and may show them on public or friends leaderboards according to your Game Center and device settings.

Who processes this data

We do not receive, store, or host Game Center account data or leaderboard data on our own servers. Apple processes Game Center data as an independent provider under Apple’s terms and privacy policy:

You can typically manage Game Center sign-in and related settings in your device Settings. Uninstalling the App removes local App data but does not automatically delete scores already submitted to Apple; for that, use Apple’s Game Center / Apple ID controls and Apple’s support channels.

Legal basis (GDPR)

To the extent the App’s initiation of Game Center score submission constitutes processing under the GDPR, the legal basis is the performance of the leaderboard feature you request by using Game Center in the App (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and, where applicable, our legitimate interest in offering optional competitive leaderboards (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Apple’s own processing is governed by Apple’s privacy policy and legal bases.

Game Center is not required to play puzzles offline on your device. If Game Center is unavailable, declined, or cancelled, the core puzzle features continue to work with local storage only.

4. Data We Do Not Collect

The App does not include:

• user accounts, sign-in, or sign-up operated by us;
• analytics or crash-reporting SDKs operated by us;
• advertising or ad-tracking SDKs;
• in-app purchases or payment processing;
• access to your contacts, camera, microphone, photo library, or location;
• network requests to servers operated by us.

Sound playback and haptic feedback in the App are generated and rendered entirely on-device and do not involve data collection by us.

Except for the optional Apple Game Center integration described in Section 3 (iOS), the App does not send your puzzle progress to third-party servers.

5. App Store Platforms

We do not receive any personal data about you from Apple's App Store or Google Play as a result of your download or use of the App, beyond what those platforms may show us in anonymized or aggregate developer reports (for example, download counts). Any data those platforms process about the purchase, download, operation of your device, or Game Center is governed by Apple's or Google's own privacy policies, not this one:

6. Data Retention and Deletion

Local data described in Section 2 is retained for as long as the App remains installed. You can delete it at any time by:

• clearing the App's storage/data through your device's system settings, or
• uninstalling the App, which removes all locally stored App data along with it.

We hold no copy of this local data and therefore cannot retain, restore, or delete it on your behalf once it is removed from your device.

Scores submitted to Apple Game Center (Section 3) are retained according to Apple’s policies and settings; we cannot delete them from Apple’s systems on your behalf.

7. Legal Basis for Local Processing (GDPR)

Because the on-device storage described in Section 2 does not involve the processing of personal data by us as a controller (we never receive, see, or store it on our systems), most GDPR obligations relating to our own processing of that local data do not apply. To the extent any local processing is nonetheless considered "processing" under applicable law, its legal basis is the performance of the App's core functionality that you request by using it (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in providing that functionality (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Game Center is addressed separately in Section 3.

8. Your Rights

Since we do not collect, receive, or store personal data about you on our own systems, there is generally nothing held by us for us to provide, correct, or delete on your behalf. Questions about Game Center data should primarily be directed to Apple, subject to Apple’s processes.

If you nonetheless have questions about your rights under the GDPR or another applicable data protection law — including the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection — you can contact us using the details in Section 1, and we will respond in accordance with applicable law.

If you believe your data protection rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state of your habitual residence, place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement.

9. Children's Privacy

The App is a general-audience chess puzzle app. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children on our own systems. Optional Game Center use on iOS is subject to Apple’s age and parental-control rules. Parents and guardians who wish to restrict Game Center should use the device’s Screen Time / Game Center settings.

10. International Users

Local App data stays on your device. If you use Game Center on iOS, Apple may process and transfer leaderboard-related data internationally in accordance with Apple’s privacy policy. If you use the App outside of Germany or the European Union, this Privacy Policy still applies to our role as described above.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect new App features or changes in legal requirements. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
